RIAA: those CD rips of yours are still “unauthorized”

All of that music you’ve copied from your CDs to your PC and iPod are “unauthorized,” according to a court brief filed by the RIAA. It’s not surprising, given the testimony from one music industry executive that making copies of your own music is stealing.

These pranks are commonplace now, but be careful of what you click on and from whom. If that link points to anything even pretending to be child porn, that’s enough evidence for the FBI of intent to download it. The authorities could then raid your home and possibly throw you in jail.

$8,000-per-gallon printer ink leads to antitrust lawsuit

HP paid Staples $100 million to stop selling third-party ink cartridges, according to a lawsuit from a disgruntled man tired of high printer ink prices. The lawsuit accuses the companies of violating antitrust law to keep third-party cartridges off the shelves at Staples stores.

Political fallout from The Pirate Bay raid in Sweden

In addition to the denial of service attack on the Swedish national police web site, questions are being raised by parliament members about whether the Swedish government knuckled under to US pressure in carrying out the raid on The Pirate Bay. There’s also a demonstration planned for Saturday in Stockholm.
